Subj: Scout Fleet 2002 Update: Schooner PIONEER joins the parade
Date: 4/21/2002 8:10:03 AM Central Daylight Time
From: "David Mosher" dmosher@scoutfleet.org
Shipmates,
I am pleased to announce that the schooner
PIONEER will be joining the parade of Sea Scout vessels in New York Harbor on July 27th. The PIONEER is an iron coasting schooner, built in 1885, and used for passenger and educational sails by
South Street Seaport. The schooner will be available to bring out those Sea Scouts and leaders who will be coming without a boat of their own. The boat is certified for 40 passengers. To date we have 9 spaces filled. PIONEER will be under command of Capt. Aaron Singh, a Quartermaster and Mate in Ship 272, Manhattan.
If you would like more information, please contact me at
dmosher@scoutfleet.org>
NOTE: Those familiar with the history of our program may ask if this is the same PIONEER that served as a Sea Scout training vessel back in
our early years. The answer is no. The name is simply a coincidence. All the same; its a nice coincidence.
YISS,
Dave Mosher

Subj: Scout Fleet 2002 Update
Date: 4/9/2002 9:25:28 PM Central Daylight Time
From: "David Mosher" dmosher@scoutfleet.org
Shipmates, Here is the latest news, concerning our big anniversary event this July.
- Free Museum Tickets. - Every registered sea scout and adult leader will receive a free ticket to board the vessels at the Intrepid Sea - Air-Space-Museum. The ticket will be good for the aircraft carrier INTREPID, the destroyer EDSON and the submarine GROWLER. Our thanks to
two contributors, and to the museum for providing us a discount to make this possible.
- Uniform policy. - Please note that this is a regional event. All participating units are asked to be uniform in our work
uniforms. Youth should be in light blue chambray shirts (long or short sleves) and blue jeans, as shown in the Sea Scout Manual. Adults should wear the khaki uniforms as shown in the manual. We are expecting coverage from the national media for this
event. Lets all make the effort to show a united front to the world. Any dress uniform your unit uses is acceptable.
- Showers. - We have made arrangements for the crews of the small boats to use the shower facilities at a nearby gym. The gym is a clean modern facility that is a safe and easy walk from the Intrepid pier.
Videotaping. - Our task force is arranging to have the weekend taped for developing into a documentary video which could be ordered by interested parties. If your unit is going to be videotaping your Scout Fleet experience, we would love to have a copy of the tape to possibly include segments in the documentary tape.
Any questions? Please get in touch.
YISS,
Dave Mosher
